Tucked inside Lombok’s famous Gerupuk Bay, Don-Don’s is the go-to wave when other breaks get too big. This playful A-frame reef break stays fun and approachable across conditions, offering a relaxed setup for beginners and exciting turns for advanced surfers. Thanks to its balance of challenge and accessibility, Don-Don’s has become a favorite stop on surf trips around Kuta Lombok.

Don-Don’s is an excellent surf spot in Gerupuk Bay, suitable for surfers of all skill levels. Known for its superb A-frame crest, this reef break offers both left and right-hand waves. The left side is steeper and
more complex, providing greater room for turns and maneuvers, while the right side is more forgiving.

Don-Don’s requires a larger swell to work well, making it a reliable spot when other breaks in the area are too big.

Don-Don’s works best with a mid tide and north-east winds, and it thrives on swells from the south. The wave quality is superb, offering something for everyone, from beginners to advanced surfers.

A good spot for a first barrel on the right day!

Access to Don-Don’s is typically via a short boat ride from the Grupuk fishing village. The village is a short drive from Kuta Lombok, and parking is available near the boat launch area.
The journey is straightforward, and local boat operators are readily available to take surfers to the break.

Don-Don’s FAQ

What makes Don-Don’s special?

It is the “savior” spot of the bay. When other spots like Outside Gerupuk are too big or blown out, Don-Don’s holds the size well and stays organized, offering long, clean lines.

Is it a left or right hander?

It’s a classic A-Frame, meaning you can go both ways. The Left tends to be steeper and better for turns, while the Right is often a bit softer and more forgiving.

Do I need to be an expert?

No. Don-Don’s is famous for catering to all levels. Beginners can surf the shoulders or on smaller days, while advanced surfers can rip the long walls when the swell is pumping.

How do I get there?

Like the other Gerupuk breaks, access is by local boat from the fishing village. It’s slightly further into the bay than Inside Gerupuk, but still a quick ride.

What is the best tide?

It usually works best around mid-tide. It’s important to coordinate with your boat driver to hit it when the tide is filling in or draining out for the best wave shape.
